Gunar Bretschneider (born June 12, 1974 ) is a former German biathlete .

Gunar Bretschneider made his debut in 1996 in Lillehammer in the Biathlon World Cup . Here he was 34th in the sprint in his first race. His best placings were a 21st place in the sprint from Oberhof and Ruhpolding . Despite several good results, it should remain Bretschneider's only World Cup season. The 2000 European Championships in Zakopane were very successful for him . After a sixth place in the sprint, he won the silver medal in the pursuit behind Tomasz Sikora . Together with Jan Wüstenfeld , Andreas Stitzl and Ulf Karkoschka , he won the gold medal in the relay.
