Vincent Defrasne (born March 9, 1977 in Pontarlier ) is a former French biathlete and Olympic champion in biathlon.

Athletic career

In the 1999/00 season Vincent Defrasne appeared for the first time in the biathlon world cup . He achieved his best overall World Cup placement in 2005/06 (6th place), and he achieved his first World Cup victory on January 7, 2006 in the sprint race in Oberhof . At major events, Vincent Defrasne has so far mainly been successful with French relays. He won gold at the 2001 Biathlon World Championships in Pokljuka and bronze at the 2004 World Championships in Oberhof, and bronze at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City .

His greatest achievement is winning the gold medal in the pursuit at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . In the finish sprint Defrasne was able to prevail against the favored defending champion Ole Einar Bjørndalen . With the French relay he also won the bronze medal. At the Biathlon World Championships 2007 in Antholz , Defrasne won the silver medal in the mixed relay and bronze in the pursuit. Two years later he won the gold medal with the mixed relay at the 2009 Biathlon World Championships in Pyeongchang, South Korea .

Defrasne is employed by the French army and still lives in his birthplace, Pontarlier. In addition to sports, his hobby is music. He is married and has a son.
