The 2nd Biathlon Mixed Relay World Championship took place on March 12, 2006 as part of the Biathlon World Cup 2005/06 in the Slovenian biathlon stadium Pokljuka . It was held for the second time as a world championship discipline. As in the previous year, two relays per nation were allowed to participate, the length of the course was 6 km for all athletes. Because of the Olympic Winter Games taking place in Turin that same year , the non-Olympic mixed relay was the only competition at this year's Biathlon World Championships.

The race was characterized by the adverse weather conditions, which explains the many missed shots and penalties. The finish of the victorious Russian relay team was indicative of this: the final runner Nikolai Kruglow was blown out of the hand of the Russian flag that he had picked up shortly before the finish. The rules were also experimented with at this second Mixed Relay World Cup. Furthermore, two teams per nation could start. As in the previous year, the route length was 6 km for everyone involved. This year the order was first biathlete - first biathlete - second biathlete - second biathlete.
