Olena Jurijiwna Petrowa ( Russian Елена Юрьевна Петрова , Ukrainian Олена Юріївна Петрова ; also Elena Petrova ; born September 24, 1972 in Moscow ) is a former Russian-Ukrainian biathlete .

Olena Petrowa has been involved in biathlon since 1989 . She is trained by Roman Bondaruk and starts for Dinamo Kiev . The sportswoman, who lives in Sumy, made her debut in the 1992 biathlon World Cup and finished eleventh in the individual. Despite the good result, she was only used sporadically in a strong Russian team. In her third World Cup appearance in 1994 in Ruhpolding , she came eighth in the individual for the first time under the top 10. Her best placement was achieved in 1999 in Pokljuka when she came second. She achieved this rank three more times. In the overall World Cup she achieved a seventh place in 1998/99, a ninth place in 1999/00 and 15th place in each case from 1994/95 to 1997/98.

From 1993 in Borovets to 2006 in Pokljuka , she took part in 12 world championships . She achieved very good results several times. In 1996 in Ruhpolding she won the bronze medal in the sprint, which she repeated in 2004 in Oberhof . At Holmenkollen in 1999 in the mass start and 2003 in Khanty-Mansiysk in the sprint, she won the silver medal. She was also very successful with the relay and won silver in 2003 and bronze in 1996, 2000 and 2001.

Since 1994 she has participated in the Olympic Games in Lillehammer four times. When she first took part, she did not finish in her individual start, but finished fifth in the relay. 1998 in Nagano were their most successful games. In the individual she won the silver medal behind Ekaterina Dafowska and was eleventh in the sprint and again fifth in the relay. The following two games were less successful for Petrowa.

After the 2007/08 season , Petrowa ended her active career and became a coach in the youth field of Ukraine.
