Barbara Ertl (born January 27, 1982 in Benediktbeuern ) is a former biathlete from Germany and starting for Italy .

Ertl was a sports soldier and lives in Sand in Taufers . She comes from Lenggries and is married to a South Tyrolean . Since she was never able to qualify for the German World Cup team and the prospects for it were too low, she changed citizenship in February 2006 and has been part of the Italian national biathlon team since then.

At the Junior European Championships in Kontiolahti in 2002 , Ertl won the gold medal and bronze in individual, sprint and pursuit with the 3 × 7.5 km relay in the line-up of Katharina Echter , Ertl and Jenny Adler . In 2003 she was able to achieve second place in the individual race of the European Cup in Ridnaun , Italy , and two years later a victory in the relay race together with Ute Niziak , Sabrina Buchholz and Simone Denkinger .

Ertl has been competing in the World Cup since the end of the 2005/06 season. In individual races she has not yet been able to achieve a top position and has not yet achieved a World Cup point. So far she has been more successful with the Italian season. With her she reached a seventh place in 2006 in Hochfilzen . She started at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and was 38th in the individual, thus achieving her best placement in a top international race to date. In addition, she was 13th with the relay. Ertl had her most successful international season in 2007/08 . She achieved her best result in an individual race with 31st place in Oberhof , but missed a World Cup point win by one place. In Östersund she took part for the second time at the Biathlon World Championships in 2008 - in 2006 she was nominated for the relay, which however did not take part in the competitions in Pokljuka - and reached the ranks 52 in the individual, 59 in the sprint and 54 in the pursuit. In the relay race, she was tenth with the representation of Italy.

In the 2008/2009 season , Barbara Ertl was the safest shooter in the World Cup with a hit rate of 93%. Ertl also competed in the 2009 Biathlon World Championships in Pyeongchang and took 44th place in the individual.
