Svetlana Irekowna Ischmuratowa ( Russian Светлана Ирековна Ишмуратова ; born April 20, 1972 in Slatoust ) is a former Russian biathlete .

In 1996 Svetlana Ischmuratowa was active in the biathlon world cup for the first year , her first big success was winning the world title with the Russian team in 1998 . To date, she has won gold five times with Russian relays or teams at world championships, as well as two silver and one bronze medals.

In 2006 she won her first World Cup race after she was second twelve times and was already considered "Eternal Second".

At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , Svetlana Ischmuratowa won bronze with the Russian relay. 2006 in Turin achieved her first major individual success when she triumphed in the individual over 15 km. With the gold medal in the relay race, she became a two-time Olympic champion in Turin.

After the 2006 Olympic season, she took a break from competition and gave birth to a son (Mikhail) on April 10, 2007. She has now ended her active career and works as a member of the sports committee of the Russian parliament .
