Career

Nadseja Skardsina is a physical education teacher and lives in Minsk and St. Petersburg. She starts for the Dinamo Minsk biathlon club , where she is trained by Nikolai Sakharov. She has been practicing biathlon since 2005 and has been a member of the Belarus national team since 2006. Skardsina made her international debut at the 2005 European Junior Championships in Novosibirsk , where a ninth place in the pursuit became her best result. At the Junior World Championships in Kontiolahti in the same year, a 34th place in the individual was the best result. The third international junior championships that Skardsina took part in in 2005 were the world championships in summer biathlon . In Muonio , she won the mass start title, came second in the sprint and pursuit, and fourth in the relay.

The Junior World Championships 2006 in Presque Isle did not produce any noteworthy results, the Junior European Championships of the year in Langdorf went better . Here she was tenth in the sprint, sixth in the pursuit, seventh in the singles and with the relay she came in fifth. At the Junior World Championships in summer biathlon in Ufa 2006, she competed in both the cross class and on roller skis . The best result was winning the bronze medal with the relay in cross-country, and she was ninth in the sprint class and sixth in the pursuit. The best result on roller skis was a 13th place in the sprint. At the Biathlon World Championships 2007 in Antholz , Skardsina was used for the first time in the Biathlon World Championships in the senior sector. In the individual she came in a good 40th place for her. Things went even better at the European Championships in Bansko , where Skardsina won gold in the relay and was sixth in the singles.

In the 2005/06 season Skardsina started in the Biathlon European Cup . She won her first race, an individual in Obertilliach . This was mostly followed by placements among the top ten. The Belarusian has been competing in the Biathlon World Cup since 2006/07 . Her first race was an individual in Östersund , which she finished in 44th. In Pokljuka she was able to collect World Cup points for the first time in December 2007 as 27th in the sprint and was also used for the first time in a Belarusian relay (12th).

In the 2008/09 season Skardsina took part in all World Cup stations and achieved her best result with 12th place in the individual race in Hochfilzen. At the 2009 World Championships , she finished 32nd in the individual and just barely missed a medal with the Belarusian relay team in fourth place. In the 2009/2010 season she achieved a place in the top ten for the first time: In the sprint race in Pokljuka , she was eighth. Skardsina took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her best result was 22nd place in the mass start. With the relay she finished 7th. In the 2010/11 season she was able to run in a sprint in Fort Kent as tenth again in the top ten. At the world championships in Khanty-Mansiysk , Skardsina narrowly missed her first major international success as fourth in the individual race. At the third station of the 2012/2013 season in Pokljuka, Nadseja Skardsina took third place in the sprint, making it the first time on the podium of a World Cup race.

At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , she won the bronze medal in an individual race over 15 km.

After an eye operation, Skardsina had to change the shooting position from right to left in preparation for the 2014/2015 season , which means a completely new start in this sub-discipline for her.

In the winter of 2017/18 , Skardsina won the first individual race of the World Cup, the individual over 15 km, and thus entered the next race for the first time in her career with the yellow jersey of the overall World Cup leader. It was her first victory in the World Cup. With a seventh place in the second individual race of the season in Ruhpolding, she secured the overall ranking of the individual competition. At the 2018 Winter Olympics , she surprisingly won the gold medal in the relay race together with Iryna Kryuko , Dsinara Alimbekawa and Darja Domratschawa .
