Dick Johnson
Dick Johnson (* 1. December 1925 in Brockton , Massachusetts ; † 10. January 2010 in Boston , Massachusetts, actually Richard Brown Johnson ) was an American jazz - saxophonist of modern jazz .
Dick Johnson played the clarinet when he was sixteen and the alto saxophone when she was 19. He studied at the New England Conservatory and played with Herb Pomeroy early in his career in 1959 and recorded with Eddie Costa .
In the 1980s he had a comeback with his own formations and a duo with Dave McKenna , with whom he recorded on the Concord label in the style of mainstream jazz . He also played with Woody Herman during this time ; in the 1990s Johnson was involved in recordings of George Masso and Ed Sainton .
His other instruments included the flute and the soprano saxophone.
