Agon Orchestra

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Agon Orchestra is an early 1980s as Agon ensemble of young Czech composers (including Petr Kofron , Martin Smolka and Miroslav Pudlák based) orchestra offered which is opposite to the prevailing cultural policy, an individual platform for their own performance and Western pieces. The Fluxus movement related underground bands like Dg307 or Progrockgruppen as The Plastic People of the Universe were role models and are now working occasionally with the Agon Orchestra.

By performing works by the Western European avant-garde, the Agon Orchestra built a bridge over the iron curtain. The repertoire focus of the Agon Orchestra today is on performances by young Czech composers and representatives of American minimal music .
