Elena Viktorovna Golovina

Jelena Viktorovna Golovina , in some sources Jelena Vladimirovna Golovina , ( Russian Елена Викторовна Головина or Елена Владимировна Головина ; born February 16, 1961 ) is a former Soviet biathlete .

In the 1980s and early 1990s, Golovina was a member of the Soviet biathlon team, which dominated world championships .

World championships

In 1985 and from 1987 to 1991 Golovina won six gold medals with the Soviet squadron, which was unbeaten for eight years from 1984 to 1991. In addition, Golovina won three more gold medals with the Soviet team from 1989 to 1991.

In addition to these nine gold medals, Golowina became individual world champion in 1987 , winning the only gold medal of her career in an individual discipline. She won two more individual medals with the silver medal in the individual in 1990 in Minsk and the bronze medal in the sprint in 1991 in Lahti. With a total of ten gold medals, Golowina was the most successful biathlete at world championships until March 2012. Then she was replaced in this statistic by Magdalena Neuner .

World cup

In addition to the world championships, Golowina was also successful in the biathlon world cup . In the 1988/89 season she was the first non-Scandinavian winner of the overall World Cup, in the following season she was third.

Golovina was the Soviet relay champion in 1985 and 1987, and in 1990 in the patrol run.
