Emmanuelle Claret (born October 30, 1968 in Gap , † May 11, 2013 in Besançon ) was a French biathlete .

Athletic career

Emmanuelle Claret was initially active in cross-country skiing before she joined the French biathlon team in 1993. In her first season in 1993/94 , she won a single race in Ruhpolding . At the 1994 World Cup she achieved bronze with the team. She was able to repeat this result the following year . The 1995/96 season was the high point of her career. In addition to the overall World Cup victory , the 1996 World Cup was also a success. In Ruhpolding she became world champion over 15 kilometers, took silver in the relay and bronze again with the team. After less successful years, she achieved a second place in the sprint in Oberhof in the 1999/2000 season before ending her career. Claret took part in the Winter Olympics twice. In 1994 in Lillehammer she finished 35th in the sprint, but she was not nominated for the French relay when she won the bronze medal. In 1998 she was 14th in the sprint and eighth in the relay.

In 2002 she was in charge of the French Nordic Skiing Delegation at the Paralympic Games in Salt Lake City . After her sports career, she worked for the French customs administration.

Emmanuelle Claret died of the consequences of acute leukemia from which the mother of two children had suffered since the beginning of 2013.
