Career

Kateřina Holubcová began under her maiden name Kateřina Losmanová in 1989 with the biathlon sport. In 1995 she became junior world champion in sprinting and started her first world cup race in 1995. In the 1997/98 season she reached her first top 10 placement with 6th place in the Kontiolahti pursuit. The 29th place in the overall World Cup at the end of this season was her best overall ranking for a few years. Although she occasionally achieved placements in the points, she could hardly improve in the following years. The low point was 63rd place in the overall World Cup for the 2000/01 season.

But Holubcová started the 2001/02 season all the more successfully. Right at the start, she finished 5th and 4th in the sprint and pursuit of Hochfilzen. This season, Holubcová was able to place in the points in most of the races and achieved her best position to date with 25th place in the overall standings. The Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City were also quite successful with 19th place in the individual and 22nd in the pursuit.

The 2002/03 season was the most successful season in the Czech's career. With 3rd place in the sprint race in Oberhof at the beginning of 2003, Holubcová achieved the first podium of her career. In all subsequent races of the season she was placed among the top 20 athletes. The second podium of her career achieved Holubcová in Östersund in the last race before the world championships with 3rd place in the pursuit race. At the peak in Holubcovás career, the end of the season in the Russian were Khanty-Mansiysk discharged World Championships . After she had never achieved a top 10 placement at major events, Holubcová won the bronze medal in the sprint race. With the 8th place in the subsequent pursuit race, she achieved another top 10 placement. The individual race at the World Championships was her greatest success: With a faultless shooting result, Holubcová was eight seconds ahead of Belarusian Alena Subrylawa and won the gold medal. This was the first and only victory in the Czech's career, and it was also the first gold medal for the Czech Republic in ten years. With 5th place in the final mass start race, Holubcová achieved the fourth top 10 result in the fourth World Championship race. In all races of the 2002/03 season Holubcová was able to place in the points and reached with the 8th place in the overall standings at the end of the season, their best place ever.

In the following years Holubcová could not build on the consistent performance of this season despite good results every now and then. In the 2003/04 season she reached her last podium with 2nd place in the Antholz sprint, and her last top 10 placement in the 2004/05 season with 9th place in the Östersund sprint. After the Olympic Games in 2006, Holubcová announced her retirement from active competitive sport.
