The 46th Biathlon World Championships took place from February 6th to 17th, 2013 in the Czech winter sports resort Nové Město na Moravě . The competitions were held in the Vysočina Arena and on the surrounding racetracks. 377 athletes from 43 nations were registered.

The organization of biathlon world championships was a premiere for the small Czech town after the biathlon European championships in 2008 and the biathlon junior world championships in 2011 . Nové Město na Moravě prevailed in the vote with more than half of the votes against the Norwegian capital Oslo and against Kontiolahti . Previously, the city had also stood for the Biathlon World Championships in 2012 , but then withdrew because of the promising application of Ruhpolding .

Nové Město na Moravě was supported in the application for the World Championships by the Czech biathletes Michal Šlesingr and Tomasz Sikora from Poland.

In the following year, 2014, the Olympic Winter Games were the regular highlight of the season . That is why there were no biathlon world championships in 2014.
