Jana "Janka" Gereková (born November 27, 1984 in Liptovský Mikuláš ) is a former Slovak biathlete .
The student from Liptovská Porúbka has been practicing biathlon since 2000. She starts for Liptovský Hrádok and is coached by Milan Gašperčík. In 2002 she first competed in the Junior World Championships in Ridnaun and achieved 12th place in the individual as the best place. A year later she just missed a medal in Kościelisko as fourth in the individual. Also in 2004 in Haute-Maurienne , she achieved good placings in all three races and was always in the top ten. At the European Junior Championships of the year in Minsk, seventh place in the individual was her best result. In the summer of the year she started at the World Championships in Summer Biathlon in Osrblie and just barely missed the bronze medal in fourth place. At the Junior European Championship 2005 in Novosibirsk , Gereková again achieved her best result with the relay as fifth. The Junior World Championships in Kontiolahti did not produce any results worth mentioning.
Since the 2005/06 season Janka Gereková starts in the senior class. At first it was mainly used in the Biathlon European Cup . In Osrblie , however, she quickly made her debut in the Biathlon World Cup . She was 79th in the sprint. In the subsequent World Cup race in Oberhof , she achieved her second-best result in an individual race as 37th in the sprint. Highlight of the season was Gerekovás participation in the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin . She was used in San Sicario in the individual and reached rank 59. Shortly afterwards she entered the European Championship in Langdorf and finished 50th on the same route. In addition, she was thirteenth at the World Championships with the mixed relay in Pokljuka .
In 2007 the Slovakian was able to compete for the first time in Antholz at a Biathlon World Cup . In the sprint she was able to reach 66th place, with the relay she was 15. It went better at the EM in Bansko . With the relay Gereková reached seventh place, in the sprint she was 16th and in the pursuit she came 17th. In the summer of 2007, she started quite successfully at the World Championships in the summer biathlon in Otepää . In the cyclo-cross discipline, she was able to take fifth place in the sprint and mass start, on roller skis she was ninth in the sprint and fourth in the pursuit. Her best World Cup results so far are a 36th place in Pokljuka in the sprint in the 2006/07 season and a seventh place with the relay in the same season in Ruhpolding . Jana Gereková took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her best results were 40th in the sprint and pursuit. With the relay she finished 13th. At the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2010 in Osrblie she won bronze in the mixed relay on the side of Natália Prekopová , Miroslav Matiaško and Matej Kazár . In addition, she won the silver medal in the sprint behind Irina Leukhina , but did not take part in the pursuit race.
In May 2017, she retired from her career due to ongoing health problems.
