Miroslav Matiaško (born July 14, 1982 in Handlová ) is a Slovak biathlete . He competed at six world championships and once at the Olympic Games .

Miroslav Matiaško is a sports soldier and lives in Banská Bystrica . The athlete from VSC Dukla Banská Bystrica has been practicing the sport since 1993 and is trained by Pavol Kobela. Since 2001 he has been a member of the Slovak national team.

He made his international debut at the 2001 European Junior Championships in Haute-Maurienne . His best result there was a ninth place in the individual. The Junior World Championships of the year in Khanty-Mansiysk , where his best result was sixth place in the relay, went less well . The Junior World Championships went better a year later in Ridnaun . Matiaško was fifth in the individual and fourth with the relay, to which Matej Kazár also belonged. At the subsequent European Junior Championships in Kontiolahti , he was unable to place in the top ten. The Slovakian made his debut in the Junior European Cup for the 2002/03 season and achieved a podium finish with second place in his second race, a pursuer in Windischgarsten . He was then allowed to compete in his first biathlon World Cup race in a sprint race in Ruhpolding and finished 82nd. At the Junior World Championships in Kościelisko , which took place shortly afterwards , the good shooter won the individual silver medal behind Jouni Kinnunen . There was also an eighth place in the sprint and sixth place in the relay. Towards the end of the season, Matiaško was allowed to start at the biathlon world championships for the first time . The best result in Khanty-Mansiysk was 14th place with the relay, which also included his older brother Marek Matiaško . In summer 2003 he started at the Junior World Championships in summer biathlon and won gold in the mass start and silver in the relay.

With the beginning of the 2003/04 season , Matiaško started very often in the World Cup, but without being able to win points in individual races. The best result of the season he achieved in the context of the Biathlon World Championships 2004 in Oberhof with tenth place in the relay race. In addition, with 33rd place in the individual, he achieved his best result so far in an individual race in the World Cup. In the summer he won the bronze medal in the relay race with his brother, Pavol Hurajt and Radovan Cienik at the World Championships in Summer Biathlon in Osrblie . In the individual he was 13. In the 2004/05 season Matiaško initially competed in the Biathlon European Cup , but moved back to the World Cup towards the end of the season. The performances of the season were rather mixed, which was also reflected in the result of the biathlon world championships in Hochfilzen in 2005 . In Austria the Slovak was only 93rd in the individual and 14th with the relay. The following season, in which Matiaško was mainly used in the European Cup, he did not achieve any results worth mentioning. Nevertheless he could for the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin qualify, where he went in four races at the start. The best result here was 38th place in the individual, in the sprint he came in 51st, in the pursuit he was 49th. In the relay he also reached 14th place.

Also in the two following seasons, in which Matiaško was used only sporadically in the World Cup, he could not win any points in a single race. With fifth place in the Obertilliach sprint , he achieved his best result so far in an individual race of the European Cup. At the 2007 European Championships in Bansko he was able to finish tenth in the individual, and sixth in the sprint and mass start at the World Championships in the summer biathlon in Otepää . In 2007/08 the Slovak started almost exclusively in the European Cup. The best result was a third place with the relay in Osrblie. At the Biathlon World Championships in 2008 in Östersund , he was ninth with the relay. It is Matiaško's best result in the World Cup and World Championships. Miroslav Matiaško took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. His best result was the 47th place in the individual. With the relay he finished 15th. At the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2010 in Osrblie he won bronze in the mixed relay on the side of Jana Gereková , Natália Prekopová and Matej Kazár . In the 2010/2011 season , Miroslav Matiaško finished 6th in the individual race in Pokljuka, which was also his first result in the top ten.
