Matej Kazár (born May 10, 1983 in Košice , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak biathlete .

Career

Matej Kazár lives in Predajna and trains in Brezno . The student is a sports soldier . His club is VSC Dukla Banska Bystrica , where he was trained by Pavel Kobela. Since 2000 Kazár competed in international junior races. Between 2000 and 2004 he competed in five Junior World Championships. The best results were a fifth place in the individual of Khanty-Mansiysk (2001), in the pursuit of Ridanna (2002) and in the pursuit of Kościelisko (2003). He also often competed at the European Junior Championships. He took top ten positions several times. In 2000 he won relay silver in Zakopane and gold in singles in Minsk in 2004 . At the Junior World Championships in summer biathlon , he won the relay silver in Forni Avoltri in 2003 .

In 2002 Kazár made his debut in Lahti in a relay race (16th) in the Biathlon World Cup . After that he only started in the Junior European Cup until 2004. Since 2005 he has competed in the World and European Cups, alternating between them . In the European Cup, Kazár achieved several good placements in the 2007/08 season , including two third places. The Slovakian won his first points in the World Cup in 2008 as 23rd in the pursuit of Ruhpolding . Kazár first started at the biathlon world championships in 2005 in Hochfilzen . Here he was 76th in the sprint and 14th in the relay. In 2006 in Pokljuka , he finished 13th in the mixed relay. In the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin he reached the sprint 57th and in the pursuit of rank 52. At the World Championships in summer biathlon in Ufa he missed in fourth place in the relay only about a medal. He won his first title at the 2010 Summer Biathlon European Championships in Osrblie , where he won the sprint and pursuit titles as well as bronze in the mixed relay with Jana Gereková , Natália Prekopová and Miroslav Matiaško . He was able to confirm these successes at the 2010 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Duszniki-Zdrój . In the sprint, he won the silver medal behind Dušan Šimočko , won the subsequent pursuit race and was with Gereková, Ľubomíra Kalinová and Šimočko the bronze medal in the mixed competition. The 2010/11 season brought the improvement of the personal best in a sprint in Hochfilzen to 21st place. At the Biathlon World Championships 2011 in Khanty-Mansiysk , Kazár was 92nd of the individual and 78th of the sprint. In the further course of the season he took part in the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2011 in Nové Město na Moravě , without building on his earlier successes as 24th in the sprint and 14th in the pursuit. In the 2011/12 season the Czech was able to finish 17th in a sprint in Kontiolahti for the first time among the top 20 in the World Cup.
