The open summer biathlon European championships 2010 took place from August 11th to 15th in Osrblie , Slovakia . The competitions were only held in the cross-country discipline and only in the sprint and pursuit. After the cross competitions of the 2010 Summer Biathlon World Championships were suspended, it was the most significant international event of this version of the biathlon.

The jury consisted of six members. Karl-Heinz Wolf (Germany) was on site as the Technical Delegate of the International Biathlon Union , the competition director was Jozef Hirschman (Slovakia). In addition, Ventzeslav Iliev (Bulgaria, without voting rights) and Tomislav Lopatič (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Vasili Balshkou (Belarus) and Vojtech Zicháček (Czech Republic) in the men's competitions and the mixed relay competition and Gheorghe Gârniță (Romania), Adam Kolodziejczyk (Poland) and Alexandr Akritckii (Russia) join the jury in the women's competitions.

The most successful nation was Russia with nine out of 13 possible medals won, including both titles in women. Four of the remaining possible six medals, including both men's titles, went to Slovenia. The remaining two medals were won by the starters from Ukraine. Three-time European champion was Irina Leukhina , double European champion Matej Kazár , who also won bronze in mixed. For the first time close biathletes from Armenia and Kenya participated in European biathlon championships.

35 athletes from 12 countries started. Vitaly Derdiychuk got a time credit of 0: 44.7 minutes. The competition was dominated by the Russian runners, who took six of the top ten places.

The junior race with 47 participants won the Belarusian Artsiom Leshchanka ahead of the Slovak Tomáš Hasilla and the Russian Anton Babikow . The best German was Niklas Heyser in fifth, Austrians, Swiss or Italians did not start.

33 of the 35 qualified athletes started, the two representatives of Armenia no longer started. Only the winner Matej Kazár , who also won this pursuit race after the sprint, prevented a total Russian triumph. Russian athletes finished 2nd to 6th. Daniel Pelyhe was given a two-minute time penalty.

The junior race, in which 45 of the 47 qualified biathletes took part, ended with 44 starters. The Belarusian Artsiom Leshchanka won his second title ahead of the Russians Vladislav Vakorin and Anton Babikow . The best German was Niklas Heyser in fifth; Austrians, Swiss or Italians were not at the start.

18 athletes from eight countries started. With five of the eight first places, the Russian women made up the strongest line-up.

In the junior women’s race, 42 of the 43 registered biathletes competed, of which 41 were included in the ranking. The Ukrainian Tetjana Tratschuk won ahead of the Russians Aljona Schilenko and Tatjana Kasakowa . The best German starter was Lena Schäfer in 28th place, Thordis Arnold was 30th. Austrians, Swiss, Italians or Belgians did not start.

17 of the 18 qualified athletes started. The sprint winner, Irina Leukhina , also won the pursuit after the sprint. The European sprint runner-up, Jana Gereková , did not take part in the race. With five placements in the top seven, the Russians were once again the most successful national team. Ľubomíra Kalinová (0: 33.1 min), Alina Ayupova (0: 32.4 min) and Zsuzsa Czene (1: 43.3 min) were penalized.

39 of the 41 qualified runners took part in the junior race, 38 placed. Monika Hojnisz from Poland won the title ahead of the sprint winner, Tetjana Tratschuk from Ukraine, and Luiza Dmitrieva from Russia. Thordis Arnold was 14th, Lena Schäfer 23rd. Other starters from German-speaking countries were not at the start.

Nine seasons started. There were no representatives from German-speaking countries. The Russian relay won superiorly.

The juniors' race was also won by the Russian starters ahead of the relays from Poland and Romania. The German season with the line-up of Thordis Arnold , Lena Schäfer , Hendrik Redeker and Niklas Heyser came in sixth and thus last place in the ranked of the seven started seasons. The representation of Hungary was disqualified.
