The 12th IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships took place from September 4th to 8th, 2007 in Otepää . Medals were awarded in four individual disciplines for men and women, as well as in a mixed relay competition. Two of the disciplines, a sprint and a mass start race, for both women and men, took place in cross- country running, while a sprint and a pursuit race for men and women were held on roller skis . The relay competition was held in the cross-country discipline. Almost simultaneously, usually only a few minutes apart, the Junior World Championships in the respective disciplines took place.
The most successful team was almost traditionally Russia, which won four of the nine titles and a total of eleven medals. Alexei Katrenko became the most successful participant, he won two titles and a bronze medal in cross country. Natalja Sokolowa won both individual titles in the women. Kaisa Mäkäräinen also became a two-time world champion in roller skiing . Alexander Grisman achieved his first international success by winning the title in the roller-ski pursuit race, he could not achieve further successes because he had a fatal accident before the next summer world championships. The hosts won medals in both disciplines with one silver and one bronze medals.
