The 16th IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships took place in 2012 in Ufa , Russia . The medals were awarded in two individual disciplines for men and women as well as in a mixed relay.
While Russia competed with the best line-up, almost all of the major biathlon nations did not take part. In Germany and Norway, for example, national championships were held at the same time. Only the Austrian Mario Drescher started from the German-speaking area . Besides the outstanding Russians, only the Ukrainians had traveled to Bashkortostan with a strong team . While only Russians won medals among the men, the Ukrainians were able to win a complete set of medals among the women like the Russians. Olga Saizewa and Alexei Volkov each won two titles and a silver medal, the Ukrainian Wita Semerenko one title and two silver medals. Only in the mixed relay race was another nation able to win a bronze medal with the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic benefited from the rule that only one relay from each nation was included in the rating. Due to the small number of participants, the nations could not only have other runners compete in addition to the actual starters in the relay race, but they did not make it into the ranking. Russia in particular made use of this, but also Ukraine as a second nation.
With Rameez Ahmad Padder , an Indian biathlete took part in an international championship for the first time.

All eight registered relays were at the start. Only one relay per nation was included in the rating, so a total of three relay teams were included in the rating. The relays were rated with purely national identification without additional numbers (1, 2, 3). The qualified Russian relay won gold, while the qualified relay of Ukraine came second, although the Russia 1 and 2 relay and even the Ukraine 1 relay finished before it. The only season from a third nation, the representation of the Czech Republic, only reached the seventh time of all eight seasons, but could only win the bronze medal due to the rating of only one season per nation.
The junior race was won as the elderly, the squadron of Russia ( Olga Podchufarova , Olga Kalina , Alexei kornew , Anton Babikow ) ahead of Ukraine ( Julija Bryhynez , Iryna Varvynets , Oleksandr Dachno , Dmytro Pidrutschnyj ) and the Czech Republic ( Kristyna Cerna , Jessica Jislová , Matej Krupčík , Michal Žák ). In addition to other teams from Ukraine and Russia, Bulgaria joined the team as the fourth nation, where Nija Dimitrova and Dessislawa Stojanowa belonged to the team.
