Serhiy Anatolijowytsch Sednjew ( Ukrainian Сергій Анатолійович Седнєв , Russian Сергей Анатольевич Седнев * 19th December 1983 in Hlukhiv , Sumy , Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic , Soviet Union ) is a former Ukrainian biathlete .

Serhij Sednjew has competed in the Junior European Cup since 2002. Here he won two races in Ridnaun . At the 2004 Junior European Championship in Minsk he won silver in the relay, at the 2004 Junior World Championship in Haute-Maurienne bronze in the pursuit. In the summer of that year he also won bronze in the pursuit at the Junior World Championships in the summer biathlon in Osrblie . He ran very successfully at the Universiade 2007 in Turin , where he won silver in the individual and with the relay, as well as bronze in the sprint and in the pursuit.

In 2004 Sednjew was also used for the first time in the Biathlon World Cup and was 67th in the 10 km sprint of Ruhpolding . In the following years the Ukrainian alternated between the World and European Cup. It was not until 2007 that he managed to stabilize somewhat. He was able to take part in a biathlon world championship in Antholz for the first time and was 42nd in the 20 km individual race there. However, it was not until the first race of the Biathlon World Cup 2007/08 when he was able to win his first World Cup points as 26th in the individual in Kontiolahti . In December 2007 in Pokljuka he was on the podium for the first time with third place in the individual race. In the 2009/2010 season Serhij Sednjew in Antholz, again in a single, achieved his first victory in the World Cup, mainly due to his faultless shooting performance. Sednyev took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. His best result was tenth place in the pursuit. With the relay, he finished eighth. Sednjew also remained successful in the following season , in Pokljuka he came back on the podium in third place in the individual race.

On December 19, 2014, he unexpectedly resigned. Less than a month later, the IBU, the world biathlon federation, announced that a new examination of a doping test from January 2013 at Sednyev found EPO . He decided not to open the B sample and was banned for two years.
