Olexander Mykolajowytsch Schyrnyj ( Ukrainian Олександр Миколайович Жирний , also Russian Александр Николаевич Жирный / Alexander Nikolayevich Schirny * 25. February 1987 in Ufa , Bashkir ASSR , Russian SFSR , USSR ) is an originally Russian biathlete who for since 2014 Ukraine will start.

Alexander Schirny made his international debut at the Biathlon European Championships 2012 in Osrblie . In the individual he reached the 13th place, in the relay competition he came on the side of Nikolai Jakuschow , Sergei Kljatschin and Alexei Wolkow behind the representations from Germany and Norway on the third place and won the bronze medal. After the EM, he came to the first non-European races of the IBU Cup in Canmore for his first appearances in the second highest international racing series. On his first appearance in a sprint race, he also achieved his best result so far with sixth place. In four races in Canada, he reached the top ten three times.

Since 2014 he has started as Olexander Schyrnyj for Ukraine.
