Mario Drescher (born August 4, 1987 in Rottenmann ) is an Austrian biathlete .

Career

The trained carpenter competed in his first biathlon competitions in 2000.

After he had performed successfully at the 2005 World Youth Championships in Kontiolahti - among other things, he had achieved second place and thus the silver medal in the individual competition - the Austrian federation nominated him for the first time for the European Cup at the beginning of winter 2005/06 . There he never achieved a place in the points in his first races, his best result was a 47th place. When Drescher showed convincing performances in the 2007/2008 European Cup and even finished tenth in the sprint, he was nominated for the 2008 Junior World Championships in Ruhpolding . Here, too, he confirmed his good form and placed 13th in the individual competition. With the relay, in which he ran as a starting runner, he just missed a medal in fourth. Shortly after this first major event in the junior area, another followed; at the European Junior Championships in Nové Město na Moravě he won the silver medal with the relay team led by Daniel Salvenmoser , Sven Grossegger and Dominik Landertinger . In the last European Cups of the season, he placed in the top ten again when he finished eighth in a sprint.

Since the 2009/10 season Drescher starts at the men. He contested his first race in the IBU Cup in Idre and was 107th, and a day later in the same place in another sprint 55th. In his third race, an individual in Ridnaun , he won points for the first time as 35th. It is also his best finish in this racing series to date. The first major event among men was the 2012 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Ufa , where he finished 15th in the sprint.

Nationally, Drescher, who began his training in the Army Sports Training Center in Hochfilzen in 2006 , was one of the most successful junior biathletes. After several Austrian championship titles at school and youth championships, he also won several medals in the junior division; he is a nine-time national youth and junior champion. In addition, he was able to rank well in the overall ratings of the Austria Cup in the respective age groups. In the men's race, he was third in the relay race alongside Christoph Sumann and Andreas Zelzer in 2008, as well as third in the Austrian championships in 2010 behind Michael Hauser and Philipp Blaim .

Drescher has been working for the police in Salzburg since 2009 and is a member of the Nordic police force. In 2013 he won three silver medals in the biathlon competitions at the European Police Championships in Les Diablerets (Switzerland).

Mario Drescher (PI Mittersill) took tenth place in the three-day Tour de Ramsau in January 2017 .
