Sven Grossegger (born November 17, 1987 in Saalfelden ) is an Austrian biathlete and the son of the former ÖSV biathlete Andrea Grossegger , who, with her husband Reinhard, now looks after HSV Saalfelden , one of Austria's most successful biathlon clubs .

Career

Grossegger achieved first successes in the junior division in the 2004/05 season. At the Austrian youth championships in cross-country skiing in St. Ulrich am Pillersee , he came second in the youth class II over 10 km and won the relay. At the competitions in Bad Goisern he was third in the double pursuit. At the Austrian youth championships in biathlon in Hochfilzen he was third over 12.5 km on the roller ski and won with the relay. He finished fifth in the 7.5 km sprint in Rosenau am Hengstpaß .

At the 2006 Junior World Championships in Presque Isle , he won the silver medal with the relay. He finished seventh in the 7.5 km sprint, fourth in the 10 km pursuit and sixth in the individual over 12.5 km. In the 2005/06 season he also started in the European Cup for the first time. At the race in Obertilliach he was 25th in the sprint over 10 km and reached 23rd place in the pursuit over 12.5 km. At the European Cup races in Martell he surprisingly achieved a 13th place in the sprint and 16th in the pursuit. In the European Youth Championships in biathlon, he was in Langdorf shortly after eight in the relay.

At the Austrian Biathlon Youth Championships in Hochfilzen he was third in the individual and second in the sprint on the roller ski. At the competitions in Eisenerz he was also second in the mass start over 12.5 km. He was able to win the relay competition, which took place in Hochfilzen again. At the competitions in Obertilliach he came second in the 7.5 km sprint and was also able to finish third in the 10 km pursuit. At the end of the season he was second overall in his age group in the Austria Cup.

For the 2006/07 season he started in the junior age group and mostly achieved top 10 placements in the European Cup races in this age group. In the end he was sixth overall in the European Cup. At the European Junior Championships in Bansko he was fourth in the individual over 15 km, seventh in the sprint over 10 km, and won the silver medal with the relay. At the Junior World Championships 2006 in Martell he was 31st in the individual over 15 km, eighth in the sprint over 10 km, 17th in the pursuit over 12.5 km and fourth in the relay. At the end of the season he was fourth in the overall juniors' Austriacup ranking.

At the 2007 Junior World Championships in Ruhpolding , he was able to achieve sixth place in the 10 km sprint. At the Junior European Championships in 2008 in Nové Město , he won the silver medal again with the relay. In the individual over 15 km he was 27th, in the sprint over 10 km 20th and in the pursuit over 12.5 km 17th.

Sven Grossegger made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup in Hochfilzen in December 2008. He was 57th in the sprint and 59th in the pursuit. At the 2009 European Biathlon Championships , he was 20th in the sprint over 10 km, 30th in the pursuit over 12.5 km and 30 in the individual over 20 km In the relay over 4 × 7.5 km he and the Austrian team came in fifth together with Andreas Schwabl , Julian Eberhard and Tobias Eberhard . Grossegger was able to win points in the World Cup for the first time in 2011 in Presque Isle when he finished 35th in a sprint race. At the start of the 2011/2012 World Cup in Östersund, Sven Grossegger was 10th in the sprint and placed in the top ten for the first time.
