Tobias Eberhard (born January 12, 1985 in Saalfelden ) is an Austrian biathlete .

Life

In the civilian profession, Eberhard is an executive officer of the Federal Police . He lives in Saalfelden. Julian Eberhard's older brother starts for HSV Saalfelden and is trained by Alfred Eder . He has been practicing biathlon since 1998, since 2000 as a member of the Austrian national team. In 2002 he competed for the first time in a Junior World Championship in Ridnaun and achieved a 33rd place in the sprint as the best place. The following year he was sprint eighth in Kościelisko . Also in Haute-Maurienne he achieved his best position in the sprint again in 14th place, the following World Championships in Kontiolahti did not bring any notable results. At his last Junior World Championships in Presque Isle , sixth place in the sprint was his best result. At his first European Junior Championship in Minsk he did not achieve any results worth mentioning, in 2005 in Novosibirsk he was sixth in the sprint and eighth in the pursuit. In Langdorf he was sixth in the individual. At his first European Senior Championships in Bansko , Eberhard won the bronze medal in the sprint and was eighth in the pursuit and eleventh in the individual.

Between 2002 and 2006 Eberhard started in the Junior European Cup. Once he was able to win in Altenberg - his last race in this competition. In the Biathlon World Cup he was first used at the end of the 2005/06 season . He contested his first race in a sprint in Kontiolahti , which he finished in 88th. Since 2006/07 he has been used regularly in the World Cup. The best result of the season was a fourth place with the relay in Oberhof . For the first time he was able to collect points in a sprint in Pokljuka the following season , where he finished 20th. Eberhard made his final breakthrough at the beginning of the 2008/09 season . In Hochfilzen he came in 13th place in a sprint race and a little later won a World Cup race with the Austrian relay with his own faultless performance. In Oberhof and Antholz he achieved his first top ten results in sprint races with tenth places.

At the Biathlon European Championships in 2009 he was fifth in the sprint over 10 km and 21 in the pursuit over 12.5 km. In the relay over 4 × 7.5 km he was with the Austrian team together with Andreas Schwabl , Julian Eberhard and Sven Grossegger fifth.

Trivia

Like his compatriot Simon Eder, Tobias Eberhard is one of the few left-handed shooters in the Biathlon World Cup.
