NGC 4394 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is an estimated 39 million light years away from the Milky Way , has a diameter of about 50,000 ly and belongs to the Virgo Galaxy Cluster .
NGC 4394 is apparently a real companion to the M85 galaxy . The galaxy M85 can be found at a distance of 8 arc minutes .
The object was discovered on March 14, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
