NGC 4416 is a bar-spiral galaxy with a high rate of star formation of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Virgo at the ecliptic . It is an estimated 59 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 30,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VCC 938 as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4415 , NGC 4434 , IC 789 , IC 3322 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on April 11, 1825 by John Herschel .
