NGC 4419 is an active barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is listed under catalog number VCC 958 as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4396 , NGC 4421 , IC 3327 , IC 3392 are located in the same area of the sky .
On January 4, 1984, GN Kimeridze and Rosino discovered the type Ia supernova SN 1984A in it .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 8, 1784 .
