history

The first white settlers came to the Shell Creek Valley region as early as the 1860s. The namesake of the place "Newman Grove" was a man named Newman Lewis, who planted a small poplar grove in the place where the park is today. After his early death, his father made to ensure that the post office, which was established in 1874 and the place, "Newman Grove" (later dt about.: Newman Grove ) was called. The arrival of the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad in 1887 ensured the town's continued growth. February 9, 1888 is considered the official founding date of Newman Grove. "The New Era" was the first and only daily newspaper to be published in the 1890s. In 1920 the village had the highest population with 1,260 people. However, after World War II , the number fell due to the closure of a dairy and tire factory, resulting in higher unemployment.
