NGC 4429 is an active Lenticular galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 47 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter . It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1003 .
The galaxies IC 3346 , IC 3347 , IC 3361 , IC 3371 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on March 15, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
