NGC 4423 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sd in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 47 million light years away from the Milky Way , has a diameter of about 35,000 light years, and is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under catalog number VCC 971 . The galaxies NGC 4430 , NGC 4432 , NGC 4453 and NGC 4376 are located in the same area of ​​the sky .

The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 13, 1784 .
