NGC 4412 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 99 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 40,000 ly. Under catalog number VCC 921 it is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 4457 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on February 23, 1784 .
