NGC 4396 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble-type Scd in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 10 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 50,000 ly. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under catalog number VCC 865 . The galaxies NGC 4379 , NGC 442 1, IC 3313 , IC 3365 are located in the same area of ​​the sky .

The object was discovered on April 20, 1865 by the German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
