Ida Arenhold (born October 11, 1798 in Herzberg am Harz ; † September 24, 1863 in Hanover ) was the (co-founder) and first head of the Friederikenstift hospital in Hanover.

Life

Ida was the eldest daughter of eight children of court official Wilhelm Arenhold (1768–1849) and his wife Ilse Leßmann. One year after her birth, the family moved to Hanover, where their father was transferred. Her mother died in 1822 after a long illness, and Ida now ran her father's large household.

Following the example of Amalie Sieveking , the first “women's association for poor and sick care” was established in Hanover. Ida Arenhold was the initiator and first chairwoman from 1840 to 1863. The association's work was financed by donations. King Ernst August I was enthusiastic about this initiative and gave the association the "Weisshaarschen Hof" in Calenberger Neustadt (which was consecrated as a club and hospital on August 7, 1843. Arenhold was co-founder and first head of the association). The renovation and expansion work was carried out according to the plans of the architect and court builder Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves at the king's expense. On May 23, 1844, the king consecrated the hospital in the name of Friederikenstift; The name was given in memory of his late wife, Queen Friederike von Hannover .

Ida Arenhold, who was never married, died at the age of 64 as the first head of the Friederikenstift and was buried in the garden cemetery in Hanover.
