NGC 4378 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 111 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 90,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VVC 785 as part of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4301 , NGC 4303 , NGC 4324 , NGC 4376 .

The object was discovered on February 2, 1786 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
