HI Parkes All Sky Survey

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

HI Parkes All Sky Survey , usually referred to as HIPASS for short , is a radio-astronomical survey of the sky carried out from 1997 to 2002 at a wavelength of 21 cm, i.e. the wavelength of neutral hydrogen . It was carried out with the 64-m radio telescope at the Parkes Observatory in Australia. Due to the location (33 ° south and 148 ° 15 ′ east), the telescope cannot control objects north of approx. 55 ° north, but together with the NRAO VLA Sky Survey , a complete map of the sky is in the range of 21 cm.
