NGC 4383 is an active spiral galaxy with extensive star formation areas of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 74 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 45,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VCC 874 as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster.
The galaxies NGC 4350 , NGC 4405 , IC 787 , IC 792 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Eduard Schönfeld on May 23, 1862 .
