NGC 4451 is a spiral dwarf galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sbc: in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 36 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 15,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VVC 1118 as part of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4424 , NGC 4445 , IC 3366 , IC 3430 .

The Type IIP supernova SN 1985G was observed here.

The object was discovered on March 19, 1865 by Heinrich d'Arrest using an 11-inch telescope .
