NGC 4458 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in the constellation virgin on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 28 million light years from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light years across. Together in NGC 4461 , it forms the (optical) galaxy pair Holm 411 and is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1146 .

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4435 , NGC 4473 , IC 3386 , IC 3393 .

The object was discovered on April 12, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
