NGC 4482 = IC 3427 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E4 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 81 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 45,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VCC 1261 as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4503 , IC 3425 , IC 3437 , IC 3447 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on March 15, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel .
