IC 3442 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is estimated to be 275 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light-years across. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VVC 1355 as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster, some 54 million light years away .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4501 , IC 3432 , IC 3476 , IC 3478 .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 10, 1904 .
