IC 3440 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Virgo the northern sky . It is estimated to be 345 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 30,000 ly.

The object was discovered by Arnold Schwassmann on September 13, 1900 .
