IC 3443 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Virgo in the northern sky . It is an estimated 85 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 10,000 ly. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under catalog number VVC 1348 . The galaxies NGC 4486 , IC 3440 , IC 3459 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 10, 1904 .
