IC 3478 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 85 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light-years across. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1453 . In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4501 , IC 3442 , IC 3476 , IC 3500 .
The object was discovered by Arnold Schwassmann on November 22nd, 1900 .
