IC 3500 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc with extensive star formation areas in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 271 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1526 , but it is too far away for that. In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 3476 , IC 3478 , IC 3520 , IC 3523 .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 10, 1904 .
