NGC 4487 is a Hubble-type SAB (rs) cd spiral galaxy in the constellation Virgo in the northern sky , an estimated 41 million light years away from the Milky Way .
The galaxy was discovered on March 23, 1789 by the astronomer William Herschel using his 18.7-inch mirror telescope.
