NGC is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E in the constellation Draco the northern sky . It is an estimated 127 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4481 , NGC 4512 , NGC 4545 .
The object was discovered on September 9, 1866 by the astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
