NGC 4499 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Centaur in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 159 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy NGC 4507 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on June 5, 1834 .
