NGC 4519 is a barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBd in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 52 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years across. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under the catalog name VCC 1508 . 
Together with PGC 41706 , it forms the galaxy pair Holm 418 . In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4488 , NGC 4522 , NGC 4535 , IC 3517 .
The object was discovered on April 15, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel .
