NGC 4543 is an elliptical galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 103 million light years from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years in diameter. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1608 . In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4532 , NGC 4577 , IC 3576 , IC 3591 .

The object was discovered by John Herschel on December 27, 1827 .
