NGC 4537 = NGC 4542 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sd in the constellation Canes Venatici in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 536 million light years from the Milky Way and about 160,000 ly in diameter.
The Type Ia supernova SN 2009do was observed here.
The object was discovered on February 17, 1831 by the astronomer John Herschel .
